| How Fast is Your High Speed? |

A recent call to our office rendered the question: How fast is my high speed connection? Well, whatever you do, don't take your ISPs word for it. Though you should expect speeds close to those advertised by your ISP for your particular package, in many cases the ISP doesn't deliver. Also, computer issues, bugs: hardware, spyware, viruses, etc can also be an issue that gives the apparent result of slower connection speed. Even router bottlenecks can cause really slow speeds. We just had a client with 30mbps speed from the ISP but a router that was good for only 11mbps.
Once the bottleneck was removed (by upgrading the router) his speeds soared like eagle... or were at least allot faster. For those that are not sure, there are a few places where you can go on-line, for free, and run a few simple tests to see how fast your high speed really is. In some cases, you can also compare your speed results with others from the same as well as different providers to see how you stack up. The link below is one we use quit ofter to test speeds.
